Red Clay is Sweet Briar College’s student-run literary magazine, and it traditionally has also featured visual art produced by students and faculty at the college. Some of the magazine’s history is unclear, although we do know that it was called “The Brambler” until at least 1986. At some point after that, it was renamed “Red Clay” and continued to publish fall and spring editions. Editions have been found dating back to 1976, but the magazine likely began publishing before then. The expansion of the magazine in the fall of 2013 to include a blog will allow it to showcase student art in new and interesting ways, for example with the use of video and sound media.
